Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day Already Broke A Huge Record

Tom Holland as Spider-Man swinging in his new suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still months away, but Marvel’s latest already broke a huge record. Apparently, fans are very excited about Tom Holland’s return as Spidey. That makes sense, given that Spider-Man: No Way Home made $1.9 billion at the box office and was one of the biggest movies of all time. It was just hard to predict just how excited everyone would be.

According to Variety, the first Brand New Day trailer, which you can watch right here, broke the record for the biggest movie trailer launch in history. It isn’t even close. According to the outlet, the trailer racked up an insane 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours. That’s great news for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, as this was already poised to be one of the biggest movies of the summer. Now? The sky seems to be the limit.

The previous record holder was Deadpool & Wolverine, which had 365 million views in its first 24 hours. Brand New Day eclipsed that number in eight hours. Trailer views obviously don’t directly equate to box office dollars, but this is a very good start for the much-anticipated sequel. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is in the director’s chair for this one. Jon Watts directed Holland’s previous Spider-Man trilogy.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

“Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”

Also starring will be Jon Bernthal (Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Michael Mando (Scorpion), Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) and Severance star Tramell Tillman, whose character has yet to be confirmed. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is also joining in a mystery role

This is the only other Marvel movie coming before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in December. We’ve already had four teaser trailers for Doomsday, but one imagines the full teaser trailer will be a similarly big deal. This is all leading up to the release of Avengers: Secret Wars next year, which will bring Marvel’s Multiverse Saga to a close.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31.
