After a first disappointing trailer, the second Venom clip released online proved the fans that they needn't worry so much. In this way, the second trailer beat records and is now the most viewed clip of any Spider-Man related movie.
And its success must be in the way the anti-hero looks on the big screens. This is why the first trailer didn't do so well, prompting many to say that Tom Hardy plays himself in Venom.
Entertainment Weekly has now published a couple of new pics from the movie, which you can see below. Together with the photos, interviews with the star of the film and the director Ruben Fleischer were also published.
According to Tom Hardy, Venom looks the coolest among all Marvel characters. But this isn't why he signed to star in the film - but rather the attitude of the character as well as his tragicomic story:
"As far as Marvel characters, I have to say for me, Venom looks the coolest. That sounds a bit shallow! But I appreciate that he has a kind of brazen swagger and a zero foxtrot attitude ("¦) There's a tragic clown element, which I find funny and is harmonious with some of the work that I like to do. There's something funny about the circumstances of having a gift but it's a tragic gift. It's a superpower you don't really want, but at the same time, you love it. It makes you feel special. He's a reluctant hero and an anti-hero."
As expected, the film will highlight Venom's violent tendencies as well as the body-horror that comes from transformations. But, at the same time, the real reason why Hardy chose this role lays within the duality of the character:
"They have different sounds. I always saw Venom as sounding like a James Brown lounge lizard, and Eddie Brock is kind of"¦" "” he switches to an aw-shucks American accent "” "I don't know, an everyday kind of guy. But he's inherited this massive ego, this beast."
According to director Ruben Fleischer, Venom won't be a typical Jekyll/Hide story: "Usually a human gets imbued with powers or an alien comes from outer space and has to figure out how to live on our Earth. But this is really about a relationship between two people who have to work together to create this hybrid symbiotic relationship."
