The sequel for sci-fi classic Blade Runner will go into production next summer with Ridley Scott, the director of the original movie and Sicario's director Denis Villeneuve, in a team ready to bring on the big screen one of the best sci-fi movies ever.
Based on Philip K Dick’s 1968 novel, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", Blade Runner is a neo-noir science fiction film with the action taking place in a dystopian Los Angeles in year 2019. A big corporation is manufacturing androids for dangerous work, while special police-operatives called Blade Runners try to hunt down those of them who go rogue and illegally find refuge on Earth.
In the role of Rick Deckard, the cop who goes after the illegal Replicants, we will see Harrison Ford again. One of the greatest cinematographers of all times will also join this team. Roger Deakins (Skyfall, Sicario, Unbroken, No Country For Old Men) will reunite with Denis Villeneuve for the much-anticipated sequel to Blade Runner.

What is the approach for Blade Runner 2?
Except the fact the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded, there are not many other details known yet, but we already have official statements about the visual side of Blade Runner 2. And since Roger Deakins is in charge with this aspect, he talked to Collider about how wonderful the original movie is, but at the same time about a Blade Runner 2 that stands for itself, different from all points of view from the original:
“I think the look of the film is an organic process. You don’t just look at the script and it comes in your head. While I think the original film is wonderful, this is not the original film… visually it doesn’t have to be anything like the original. It has to stand by itself, and its particular script and its particular story.”
After such statement, it is clear that Blade Runner 2 will be a lot different from the original, at least from the visual point of view.
Further on, he talks about the most memorable scene in the original movie.

Will Deakins change the iconic scene of the movie?
"The original was wonderfully shot, but to me, the most powerful thing about the original film is the death of, what’s the actor’s name… Rutger Hauer’s death in the rain with the white pigeon. And then you watch the documentary about the making of the film and realize that was all something that was kind of created on the day.”
With 12 Oscar nominations, a career in movies that exceeds four decades and a list of impressive movies he has worked on, Roger Deakins is with no doubt one of the finest cinematographers in the business. When Denis Villeneuve proposed him this project, Deakins didn't blink, he immediately accepted:
“I’ve always wanted to do a science-fiction film, but the things I’ve been asked to do, I consider more science-fantasy, not science-fiction. Obviously the original Blade Runner is such an iconic movie, so, to work with Denis (Villeneuve) again, but also on that, God, yeah.” (via Collider)
He refers to Blade Runner as to his first science-fiction movie, and he is very excited to work with Villeneuve on it. As we've mentioned, Harrison Ford will be again in the iconic role of Rick Deckard and Villeneuve revealed that Blade Runner 2 will pull the curtains off the big mystery: is Rick Deckard a Replicant or not?

"˜Blade Runner’ sequel – rumors about the title
The main details are already established: Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard (not Ryan Gosling as it was previously rumored), Ridley Scott as executive producer, Denis Villeneuve directing from a script written by Hampton Fancher, co-writer of the original, and Michael Green, plus the one of the greatest cinematographers, Roger Deakins.
What about the name of the sequel? Recent news from BBC report that Warner Bros., the production company for the movie sequel, has recently registered these domain names: bladerunnerandroidsdreammovie.com and androidsdreammovie.com, a hint to what might be the title of the movie. They suggest that the movie may be titled Android Dreams or Blade Runner: Android Dreams.
Given that the movie is an adaptation of Philip K Dick’s 1968 novel, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", the title BBC came up with is not a bad suggestion. But this is just a supposition.
What do you think about the way the producers team see the movie, and what would you like the title to be?
Blade Runner 2 will hit the theatres in 2017.
