The Ancient One plays the mentor figure in Doctor Strange. Subsequently to a life-altering accident, Stephen Strange starts out to meet the "Sorcerer Supreme" in order to overcome the downturn he's been experiencing since the incident. Much to his surprise, the encounter offers him no remedy. But it does introduce Doctor Strange to a world of magic. The Ancient One sees the potential in Stephen Strange and undertakes to train his newly-found apprentice.
In the Marvel universe, the Ancient One's choice triggers Baron Mordo's jealousy. So, there it is: we have the hero, we have the villain - so far, only rumored to make an appearance in Doctor Strange - and we have the mentor. The fate of the entire world is at stake.
Marvel looking for a face for the Ancient One
What we officially know so far is Scott Derrickson directs the movie and that Benedict Cumberbatch is confirmed for Doctor Strange. However, we got word from Latino Review, who claims to have "been holding on this information for the last two weeks and now I've been given the green light", that Marvel has shortlisted a few names for the role of the Ancient One.
Morgan Freeman, Ken Watanabe and Bill Nighy were approached by Marvel to talk the Ancient One. The list has been corroborated by "multiple sources" Latino Review does not care to disclose. But the choices do sound realistic if, indeed, Marvel had reached out to them.
Now, if rumors stick, who would you prefer to see impersonating the Ancient One? Age and career, undeniably, recommend them all. But if we looked closer to the details of the Marvel Universe, we'd see an Asian actor would make so much more sense.
In this case, how would you feel about Ken Watanabe signing up for the Ancient One? Share your thoughts here and let us know what you believe. Doctor Strange is set to hit the big screens November 4th, 2016.
