A couple of weeks ago, the Five Academy Award Viewer Ryan Reynolds launched a late and unlikely campaign for the Oscars. This came after Deadpool grabbed a couple of high-profile Golden Globe nominations, for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. But an Oscar nomination for Deadpool would have been a major surprise.
There was no surprise as far as Deadpool was concerned. But there was a big one for another comic book movie - Suicide Squad received an Academy nod for Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling (to be noted, Eddy Murphy's Norbit was nominated in the same category).
Suicide Squad wasn't the only comic book movie to be nominated for an Academy Award this year. Doctor Strange received a nomination in the Best Achievement in Visual Effects category. And this is no surprise, given the nature of the flick.
