Spider-Man: Homecoming – Vulture’s Motivations Revealed

As promised, Spider-Man: Homecoming won't feature any villains seen in previous Sony franchises. We’ve already had our fair share of the Vulture in the trailers, and we feel that we understand what this new supervillain is all about. But now, after a set visit by a group of journalists, we have even more details about this new character.

During an interview with Screen Rant, co-producer Eric Carroll said that the Vulture isn’to way the type of villain who has grandiose schemes for taking over the world. Instead, he’s an everyday guy who’s trying to make ends meet, provide for his family, and take care of his employees. He just wants to have a better life, but all of his efforts are in vain once Tony Stark (already a famous billionaire) intervenes and runs him out of business:

Vulture (Gamespot)

He is a businessman with a family. He wants to look out for his kids. He's got sort of a Tony Soprano mentality. He doesn't have these big delusions of grandeur, where he wants to take over the world, or replace the government, or even defeat the Avengers or anything. He just wants to"¦He wants his shot at the good life, and he thinks it's not fair that someone like Tony Stark can make a fortune selling weapons and find the light, turn away from that, and be looked upon as a hero and then even worse, help found - as you'll see - he gets paid to clean up the mess"¦So he's one of those guys. “I'm doing some shady stuff, but I'm not really hurting anyone, you know?

More layers will be added to this character, making him even more interesting. His family will be featured in the movie (to what extent, we don’t know), and this will help the audience relate to him.

Adrian Toomes (IGN)

Of course, the trailer only hinted at this aspect of the character. Until now, we just knew that he had a grudge against Tony Stark. It’s great to have more information; Michael Keaton's Vulture is exactly the kind of villain the MCU needs. Like Zemo, Toomes seems to just want his life back, and he’s seeking retribution from those who destroyed it in the first place.
