RUMOR: Gambit to Introduce Mutant Supervillain Candra!

Gambit rumored to introduce mutant supervillain Candra!

A new rumor about 20th Century Fox's Gambit suggests that Remy LeBeau (Channing Tatum) will cross paths with an iconic female supervillain.

Omega Underground learned from a studio insider that Candra The Benefactress, aka Red Death, is set to make her live-action debut in the upcoming X-Men spinoff. The character, who first appeared in the December 1993’s Gambit #1, belongs to the rare mutant subspecies The Externals.

The immortal Candra has high-level telekinetic abilities. Interestingly, she can use telekinesis at a molecular level to activate a person’s latent mutant genes. This means that she can grant them active mutant powers.

Omega Underground writer Christopher Marc clarified via Twitter that Candra will be introduced in Gambit, but details are being kept under wraps. This might indicate that she may not be the movie’s big baddie, after all. Check out Marc’s tweet below!

It was previously reported that the studio was considering Daniel Craig for the role of Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister, in the crime/heist movie. The James Bond star's involvement was subsequently debunked, but it's unclear whether the character will still be used.

At the moment, Tatum is the sole cast member. Léa Seydoux had signed on in 2015 to play Gambit’s love-interest, Bella Donna Boudreaux. But the project has lost two directors since then, and it appeared that she was no longer involved. The recent discovery of Ali Rodney's audition tape for the role appeared to confirm that this was the case. Head over to Vimeo to check out the audition tape.

Gambit recently landed Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) as its director. It’s also been assigned a release date of February 14, 2018, so production should be kicking off soon. We can expect to come across additional casting updates in the coming days.
