Twentieth Century Fox has made ten X-Men movies, including the Wolverine and Deadpool spin-offs, none of which featured the mutant pop star Alison Blaire, aka Dazzler. Then, earlier this month, we came across a rumored casting breakdown for 2018's X-Men: Dark Phoenix that suggested that the studio was looking for an actress to play the character.
Entertainment Weekly has now confirmed Dazzler’s appearance in Dark Pheonix, which will also be Simon Kinberg's directorial debut. However, the mutant who can not only sing and dance, but also manipulate light, is set to appear "only in a small role".
You might remember a photo that Sophie Turner shared on her official Instagram account of a deleted X-Men: Apocalypse scene featuring herself as Jean Grey, aka Phoenix, in a record store with Tye Sheridan's Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, who held a copy of Dazzler's album. The photo’s caption led many to believe that Taylor Swift would portray the character in a future X-Men installment.
If you were rooting for Swift to land the role of Dazzler in the November 2, 2018 release, the bad news is that it's not likely to happen. EW reported that at this point, Kinberg and Fox have no plans to cast the Grammy winner as the mutant.
After more than a decade as the X-Men Universe’s creative backbone, Kinberg will finally take the helm of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Returning characters include Jean Grey (Turner), Cyclops (Sheridan), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Professor X (James McAvoy), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Additionally, Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the big baddie, Shi'ar Empress Lilandra.
