After Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War, we get a newer victim of Vormir's Soul for a Soul policy in Avengers: Endgame. And the person who dies this time around is none other than Black Widow.
Interestingly, a Black Widow movie has already been announced and is almost halfway down its pre-production. So, we, the fans, have been left wondering what Natasha Romanoff's death means for her standalone movie. One possibility is that the Cate Shortland flick will tell an origin story. Another possibility is that it takes place in an alternate reality; say the one created by the Avengers in the April 26 release.
However, many fans believe that the death of Scarlett Johansson's character, like many other deaths in the superhero movie genre, could be reversed. In a new interview with a Chinese media outlet (via ComicBookMovie), Avengers: Endgame revealed whether that is possible or not. They also addressed another spoiler-y topic concerning the superheroine. Let's find out what they said, shall we?
Shouldn't Black Widow be resurrected when the Soul Stone is returned?
This is one of the two most prominent questions regarding Captain America's off-screen visit to Vormir, the other being whether he and Red Skull end up exchanging blows during their reunion. According to the Russo Brothers, returning the Soul Stone won't bring Nat back. They explained:
[The] process is irreversible. Even if you have returned it to its original location, you wouldn’t be able to get the person back. In fact, it’s not really returning the stone, more like put it back properly. The tribute soul for the soul stone will forever be sealed in that place, therefore Black Widow is gone forever.
Why doesn't Black Widow get a funeral in Avengers: Endgame?
This question isn't probably as important as the first one. Nevertheless, it's something that the fans of Black Widow are taking issue. So, why did the Russos deprive Nat of a proper funeral? Here's what they said on the matter:
Did you forget when the heroes where mourning for her after when they returned from past? Maybe her funeral happened off screen. Maybe it will be shown in future installment, because there are still tons of stories in MCU that are waiting to be tell [sic].
As Nat is getting her own movie, the lack of a proper funeral for her may not be as big an issue as some of us think.
