It seems like we are less than a week away from watching the first official trailer for Captain Marvel.
Disney has issued a press release that reveals the guest list for all of next week's Good Morning America episodes. Interestingly, the one for Tuesday, September 18, includes the name of Brie Larson. The actress will pay a visit to the morning show to promote her next upcoming project Captain Marvel.
While there's no mention of a trailer anywhere in the press release, it seems pretty reasonable to assume that this is where it drops. And there a number of reasons why we feel that way. Let's get to those right away.
First of all, both ABC and Marvel are owned by Disney. Cross-promotion between the Mouse House properties has become pretty common these days and there have been numerous instances where GMA specifically has served as a launching pad for trailer and other promotional videos of movies produced by the studio.
Secondly, Captain Marvel is less than six months away from hitting the theaters and there aren't any other Marvel Cinematic Universe installments due to arrive beforehand. It seems like an ideal time to drop the movie's first trailer, especially because it's the solo outing of a female superhero that has never showed up in any other live-action projects.
Holding back the first footage from such a movie for any longer could only do damage to its marketing. Disney and Marvel have already started the promotional campaign earlier this month by launching a bunch of stills featuring Larson's titular superhero and her allies as well as the bad guys. Dropping the trailer sooner rather than later would keep the hype engine running.
Another reason why it feels like the right time to launch the trailer is that Venom is rolling into theaters on October 5. The Sony Pictures venture is currently tracking for a $60-70 million debut in North America - so, a lot of people are expected to watch it on the big screen. Releasing the trailer next week will allow Disney and Marvel to attach it the Tom Hardy-starrer Ruben Fleischer flick in theaters.
Of course, there are many days remaining until Tuesday - so, we won't have to wait for long to see whether Larson brings along the trailer to GMA.
