It was a bombshell day for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only has filming commenced on Avengers: Doomsday, but Marvel Studios revealed the core cast of the much-anticipated event film. Joe Russo and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame) are back in the MCU to direct both this and Avengers: Secret Wars. Once again, they’re going to be playing with absolutely massive casts.
The difference this time around is that Doomsday is fully going to be playing in the multiverse sandbox. Much like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, nothing is off the table, it seems. Marvel made the reveal during a 5 hour livestream, showing off each actor’s chair from the set, one at a time. Here is each and every actor revealed, in order.
- Chris Hemsworth – Thor
- Vanessa Kirby – Sue Storm/Invisible Woman
- Anthony Mackie – Sam Wilson/Captain America
- Sebastian Stan – Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
- Letitia Wright – Shuri/Black Panther
- Paul Rudd – Scott Lang/Ant-Man
- Wyatt Russell – John Walker/U.S. Agent
- Tenoch Huerta Mejia – Namor
- Ebon Moss Bachrach – Ben Grimm/Thing
- Simu Liu – Shang-Chi
- Florence Pugh – Yelena Belova
- Kelsey Grammer – Hank McCoy/Beast
- Lewis Pullman – Sentry
- Danny Ramirez – Joaquin Torres/Falcon
- Joseph Quinn – Johnny Storm/Human Torch
- David Harbour – Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian
- Winston Duke – M’Baku
- Hannah John-Kamen – Ghost
- Tom Hiddleston – Loki?
- Patrick Stewart – Charles Xavier/Professor X
- Ian McKellen – Magneto
- Alan Cumming – Nightcrawler
- Rebecca Romijn – Mystique
- James Marsden – Cyclops
- Channing Tatum – Gambit
- Pedro Pascal – Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic
- Robert Downey Jr. – Doctor Doom
That’s obviously a lot to take in. It had previously been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr., who previously played Iron Man, is taking on the role of Doctor Doom. That’s a big reason why Doomsday and Secret Wars are going to cost a fortune to make. But it doesn’t stop there. As we can see, many of the X-Men actors from the past are returning as well. This includes Patirck Stewart and Ian McKellen, presumably as Professor X and Magneto once again.
Also of note, most of the core cast members from both this summer’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts will be along for the ride as well. What’s also interesting to note is how many key players weren’t included in the announcement. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye were absent, among many others. Why, exactly? We’ll find out next year when the Russos reveal to the world what it is they’re cooking up.
As for what lies beyond the Multiverse Saga? That largely remains a mystery. Save for a new X-Men reboot coming at some point, nothing has been announced. In all likelihood, what unfolds in these next two Avengers movies will shape the future. Who knows? This could be the last ride for many of these actors.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
