Joe Manganiello has teased a restored Deathstroke scene in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. In an interview with Collider, the actor confirmed that the original post-credits scene featuring the assassin will be restored. This would have led into Ben Affleck’s version of The Batman, which was ultimately scrapped.
“On my social media, I talked about [how] there was an original end credits sequence that was altered for the release of Justice League,” Manganiello said. “Once Batman was cancelled, they altered that scene. So, here you go, but I wrote about that on my social media. There’s an original scene that will be restored to what it was originally.”
Those who saw the theatrical cut of Justice League may recall Deathstroke showing up in a post-credits scene. Slade Wilson, played by the Magic Mike star, shows up on a boat with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Essentially, it was setting up the Legion of Doom, or something of the like.
It seems that will never come to pass. It remains to be seen what was included in this original scene. Deathstroke had been revealed by Ben Affleck as the villain in his version of The Batman. Affleck was on board to co-write, direct and star in the film at one point before moving on from the project. It seems the idea was to have this scene, whatever it may be, tee up that version of the movie.
Instead, Matt Reeves stepped in to direct an entirely new version of the franchise. The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. So far as we know, Deathstroke is not involved.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is allowing Zack Snyder to complete the so-called Snyder Cut for release on HBO Max. The studio is shelling out somewhere in the neighborhood of $70 million to complete visual effects, post-production work and shoot some additional scenes. It will be released as a four-episode miniseries. Manganiello refused to say whether or not he will be part of the limited reshoots.
“If I was a part of it, that wouldn’t be my place to announce that. That would be Zack’s place. So, whether or not that’s happening, that is an answer that is below my NDA level, or whatever you wanna call it,” Manganiello said.
The actor was, at one point, attached to star in a solo Deathstroke movie. The project has since been scrapped. Gareth Evans (The Raid) was set to direct.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set to arrive sometime in 2021.
