In spite of the many rumors about the film’s production, and the debatable level of success of previous DC Extended Universe movies, Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman was a hit from any point of view. More than four months after it first hit the theaters, Wonder Woman has a more-than-comfortable 92% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating, and has grossed $821 million worldwide.
Not surprisingly, talks about making a sequel began almost the minute the movie was released, and Jenkins signed on to direct a couple of months later. It’s also been announced that the sequel’s scheduled for release on December 13, 2019, one week before Star Wars: Episode IX. So there’s plenty of time to make another great film.
Omega Underground recently reported that filming for Wonder Woman 2 will begin in June 2018, several months after Episode IX, which begins shooting in January.
The site also reported that Wonder Woman 2 will indeed be set during the Cold War, prior to the superheroine's team-up against Doomsday. However, it remains to be seen whether there’s any truth to this.
According to Comic Book Movie, Wonder Woman 2 will bring back Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, in spite of Trevor’s heroic death at the end of this year's film. Of course, there was no mention of the circumstances of his return. Maybe it will take place in flashbacks to avoid diminishing his role in WWI’s conclusion.
What do you think? Will Steve Trevor return?
