Warner Bros. did an excellent job of keeping the identity of the villain in Wonder Woman under wraps until the movie hit the theaters, but it looks as though that won’t happen with the sequel. It appears that the villain in the November 1, 2019 release may be Circe, a wicked sorceress who’s been a recurring Diana Prince antagonist in the comics since the late 1940s.
Recent reports made it clear that Warner Bros. is working toward launching production for Wonder Woman 2 during the summer of 2018. They apparently plan to shoot it in the United Kingdom, as they did with the original movie. Most recently, Omega Underground reported that the sequel’s working title will be Magic Hour.
In most cases, working titles don't mean much. They’re often references to inside jokes or even nothing at all. But they do occasionally tease plot details. For instance, the studio confirmed fan speculation that the working title for Shazam! was Franklin because the movie was going to be set in Philadelphia to stay true to the New 52 comic book story. The connection was that Ben Franklin had connections to the city. The studio later confirmed that this was an accurate assumption.
Similarly, Circe lives and breates magic, so Magic Hour could be a reference to her. Of course, we could be jumping to conclusions, but the Circe references in Wonder Woman might indicate that our assumption isn’t without merit.
While the Patty Jenkins flick was still in development, we learned that the studio had Eva Green of Casino Royale and Penny Dreadful under consideration for the role of Circe. Although Elena Anaya was later cast as Doctor Poison instead, we still don’t know whether the studio approached Green in regard to that role or the villainous chemist had replaced the sorceress at the last minute.
