Earlier this week, we came across the exciting news that the Harley Quinn-centered Suicide Squad spin-off we had been hearing about for months would be titled Gotham City Sirens. It was revealed that Suicide Squad director David Ayer will helm the movie, with a script penned by Tomb Raider reboot scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Margot Robbie will serve as an executive producer, along with playing Harley.
Will Smith recently participated in an MTV interview – along with Naomie Harris and Jacob Latimore – during which he comments on Gotham City Sirens. When the interviewer asked whether he would like to reprise Deadshot in the project, the actor didn't hesitate to answer in the affirmative:
I’d definitely love to be in it. I love Margot Robbie. I would do like, anything she wants to do. That didn't come out, but"¦it probably did. It probably came out exactly how I meant it.
Since Smith uttered the word "anything", it’s safe to assume that he wouldn't mind returning as Deadshot in Gotham City Sirens, even if it’s just a brief cameo. The DC Extended Universe might be just three movies old, but Warner Bros. has made it clear that they have every intention of building connections within the universe like the ones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While Suicide Squad was bashed by most critics, the chemistry between Smith's Deadshot and Robbie's Harley Quinn was heavily praised. Ayer might consider using some more of that in his next DCEU venture. He might even ask for a cameo by Ben Affleck's Batman, considering the fact that the events will be taking place in Gotham City.
In the report that broke the story about Gotham City Sirens, it was also claimed that the studio is developing a sequel to Suicide Squad and "looking into" a Deadshot spin-off. For some reason, the interviewer didn't ask Will Smith about either of the projects. Check out the interview clip below!
