Supergirl is coming to the big screens!
In an exclusive report, Deadline has revealed that Warner Bros has started developing a big screen movie focusing on Supergirl. This is a big surprising, considering the fans are still waiting for a Man of Steel sequel.
After the 2013 movie opened the Worlds of DC universe, Superman was announced to have a major role to play in Batman v Superman and Justice League. His arc was then supposed to continue with a sequel to his own solo movie.
However, after the abysmal reception of the DC movies that followed, a sequel never happened. Henry Cavill teased from time to time, but nothing official was heard.
And now it seems that Supergirl, Superman's cousin, will enter the fold. According to Deadline, Oren Uziel was hired to write the script. Uziel's most well-known project until now is The Cloverfield Paradox. He also penned the script for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog and for the Mortal Kombat reboot.
In the comics, Supergirl is Superman's cousin and she also escaped Krypton's explosion. However, this origin could change in the movie. One of the most talked about Easter-Eggs of Man of Steel concerned an empty and open pod found by Clark Kent in the Kryptonian scout ship.
The rumour that Kara Zor-El was the occupant of that pod was debunked by Zack Snyder. However, the comic prequel of Man of Steel featured Kara Zor-El as one of the occupants of the pods and a hero for ancient tribes.
So we can expect for this kind of story to be told. At the same time, given Snyder's departure, we can also expect for this Easter-Egg to be completely disregarded.
We should also remind you in here that Warner Bros has started developing quite a few movies until now, with only a couple entering production. For example, Joss Whedon was attached to write and direct a Batgirl movie, only to depart the project afterwards. Reportedly, Batgirl is still moving forward…
