After last month's report that Warner Bros. was looking at Batgirl and Justice League Dark next, a new online rumor suggests that the studio intends to officially announce who they’ve selected to play Barbara Gordon at July’s San Diego Comic-Con International. Nine actresses, ranging in age from 19 to 27, are in the running for the role.
It’s a bit surprising that the studio is looking for its Batgirl among actresses of that young age group when their Batman is in his mid-forties. But Joss Whedon expressed his intention to hire a lesser-known actress, so from that standpoint, the list makes more sense.
Before we get into the list, I should warn you that it was posted on the DCEU Leaks Reddit subgroup, which may not be the most reliable of sources. So take it with a grain of salt.
Okay, here we go!
Katherine Langford
Katherine Langford is known for her lead role as Hannah Baker in the recent Netflix series 13 Reasons Why. According to the rumor, the 21-year-old Aussie actress is not only in contention for the Batgirl role, but she’s actually the current front runner.
Elle Fanning
Elle Fanning made her big-screen debut before the age of three, and she may be the biggest star on the rumored Batgirl shortlist. The 19-year-old actress is most recognized for her roles in Somewhere, Super 8, Maleficent, and 20th Century Women. Interestingly, she shared a Batgirl pose on her Instagram account during this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Jane Levy
Jane Levy's notable movie credits include Fun Size, Evil Dead, and Don't Breathe. She’s also appeared in the television shows Shameless and Suburgatory. The 27-year-old has been a fan-favorite for the DC Extended Universe role since the movie was announced. And thanks to artist Datrinti, it isn't difficult for us to imagine what she might look like as Barbara Gordon, both with and without the cape and cowl.
Margaret Qualley
Margaret Qualley portrayed series regular Jill Garvey in HBO's The Leftovers. The 22-year-old actress’ movie credits include Palo Alto and The Nice Guys. Although Langford is at the top of the short list, Qualley, Fanning, and Levy are the top contenders for the role of Batgirl.

In addition, the English actress has landed the role of Art3mis in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One adaptation.
Bella Thorne
Bella Thorne's big-screen credits include Blended, The DUFF, Perfect High, and Big Sky. The 19-year-old actress/singer has also starred in small-screen ventures such as My Own Worst Enemy, Big Love, and Shake It Up.
Emma Roberts
Twenty-six-year-old Emma Roberts has played lead roles in Nickelodeon's Unfabulous and Fox's Scream Queens. The actress/singer has also appeared in the movies Aquamarine, Nancy Drew, We’re the Millers, and The Blackcoat’s Daughter.
Haley Lu Richardson
Haley Lu Richardson has appeared in critically-acclaimed movies The Last Survivors, The Edge of Seventeen, and Split. The 22-year-old also has a recurring role in Freeform's Recovery Road.
Naomi Scott
Naomi Scott, the Pink Ranger in this year's Power Rangers, is the last actress on the rumored shortlist. The 24-year-old British actress starred in the movie The 33 and in television shows that include Disney Channel UK's Life Bites and Fox's Terra Nova.
