New Shazam! Casting Call Reveals Three Supporting Characters!

New casting call reveals three more supporting characters for David Sandberg's Shazam!

We recently came across an audition tape for Shazam! that indicated that Billy Batson's friend Freddy Freeman would appear in the movie. Now, a new casting call has revealed three additional supporting characters.

That Hashtag Show unearthed a new Shazam! casting call for the following characters:

[DANIEL] 11, Korean. Daniel is a smart kid, into video games and reading non-fiction. SUPPORTING

[CARLOS] 15, Hispanic, overweight, with asthma. Carlos is very shy and sweet. SUPPORTING

[SUZY] 8-10, African American. A sweet, bubbly girl with glasses and pigtails. SUPPORTING

[FRANK] 11-13, Caucasian. A kid at the group home with Billy, who becomes his friend and confidant. Sarcastic and funny. SUPPORTING

We already know that Frank is the codename for Freddy Freeman, thanks to Brendan Heard's audition tape. Based on the descriptions above, it’s fairly obvious that the name Daniel represents the character Eugene Choi, Carlos represents Pedro Peña, and Suzy represents Darla Dudley.

Eugene, Pedro, and Darla were created by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, and debuted in Flashpoint Vol. 2 #1. The Wizard Shazam granted each of them – along with Billy, his twin sister Mary, and Freddy – with an attribute of one of the six immortal elders (Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury).

However, in the New 52 continuity, Eugene, Pedro, and Darla were regular kids who had the same foster parents as Billy, Mary, and Freddy. It might be more likely that David F. Sandberg will decode to draw inspiration from the New 52 versions, rather than having them be superpowered sidekicks.

It's unclear right now whether Mary will even show up in the movie. We’ll probably know whether she will sometime in the next few months, as the studio is looking at starting production in February 2018.

Share your thoughts on these Shazam! tidbits, and stay tuned for the latest updates!
