Among the many DC projects she is attached to star in, Margot Robbie's Birds of Prey is the first one to be moving forward. Set to film next January, Birds of Prey is directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson.
If until now we have found out that it will be adult-oriented, it will have a diverse cast, as well as a much smaller budget, now we know the roster!
The Wrap broke the news in an exclusive report concerning Birds of Prey. In this way, the line-up is almost identical to what the rumours previously pointed out. And as it turns out, Batgirl will indeed skip this movie. But, at the same time, Lady Shiva is also being left out.
Harley Quinn is, of course, a given. Joining her are Black Canary, Huntress, Cassandra Cain and Renee Montoya. The latter is replacing Lady Shiva.
Black Canary is Dinah Laurel and is the second one to don this superhero alter ego, after her mother. Her father was a police officer and she is an expert hand-to-hand fighter.
Huntress is Helena Bertinelli and she is a vigilante who fights against crime outside of Gotham. In some of the comics, she comes from one of Gotham's biggest crime families.
Cassandra Cain was raised to be the bodyguard of Ra's al Ghul. She is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, being trained by the greatest martial artists in the DC Comics universe.
Lastly, there is Renee Montoya, who made her debut in the Batman animated series. Working for the Gotham Police Department, she is openly lesbian.
As far as the villain of Birds of Prey is concerned, The Wrap notes that he is a Batman villain never before seen on the big screens. The rumours say that he is David Cain. He is Cassandra's father.
