Fans would have loved to see Willem Dafoe as The Joker, but Warner Bros. opted to have him take on the role of Nuidis Vulko, a supporting character in 2018’s Aquaman who will make his debut in 2017’s Justice League. The character hasn’t appeared in any of the promotional photos or trailers released so far, but a Vulko Funko toy was recently made available.
However, Dafoe recently told IGN that the toy doesn't really look like his Justice League character. He didn't offer any specific details about his appearance, but he mentioned that his suit was "an armor", and added that he approved of the look:
The day that they show the shot of the character will accomplish more than I can by talking about it now. I like the look very much, and know they released a toy recently. But it doesn’t look so much like what I look like [in the film].
During the IGN interview, Dafoe explained how his Vulko diffeed from Jason Momoa's King of the Seven Seas:
Vulko is 100 percent Atlantean. So that’s different, because [Aquaman] is half-Atlantean and half-human. So they’re quite different. I’m capable of being outside of the water, but mostly it’s underwater. And I’m a guy that’s been around for a while. I have a kind of…Let’s call it an armor. It’s a good look, I like it a lot.
Dafoe also said that James Wan was "fantastic", but he shied away from divulging any spoilers. He did reveal that he’d been shooting Aquaman scenes for a couple of months, and would soon return for another month of shooting.
