If you didn't see the Batman v Superman trailer, then click this link. There is no way you didn't, so moving on: what have we learned from the trailer, beside Metropolis and Gotham being sister cities, laid one beside the other?
A different kind of Batman
Until now, we've been treated with several types of Dark Knights, the kind of bored one from the Burton films, the over the top ones from the Schumacher era, and the ninja of the Nolan trilogy. Obviously, everybody has its preferences as to which one was the best. But this isn't the point.
The point is that Batman v Superman will introduce yet a different type of Dark Knight - and this will indeed be a dark one, a mean, violent, and (probably) resentful one. The Batman of Batman v Superman has no problem with torturing bad guys for information (as we see a thug branded with a bat sign - the shot ends with someone screaming"¦ as if tortured).
Furthermore, he doesn't necessarily seek justice - what he seeks is revenge for those that have fallen. He isn't a detective, as we would have wanted (it's still enough time for this, though) - he is a violent brawler, overcome by feelings.
As far as his mech suit is concerned, it is revealed that it doesn't have offensive capabilities. The mech suit of Batman v Superman is just something very hard, which can withstand the blows of Superman.
On the next page, coming from an alien planet"¦
Batman v Superman - the Kryptonite
Man of Steel didn't include this rock - but Batman v Superman will. And it isn't like we heard before - it isn't in the possession of Bruce Wayne, but in the possession of Lex Luthor. Sure enough, the rumor is that Batman will pay a visit to Lex Corp and actually steal the kryptonite. Another rumor would be that Bruce Wayne will ask for it from Lex"¦
In any way, the big question as to why Superman kneeled in front of Lex is answered - it was just this rock.
Of course, an even bigger question would be this: how does Lex know that this is Superman's weakness? How does Batman know, especially if he is said to have his mech suit lined with kryptonite?
Does this have anything to do with those soldiers with an S insignia?
On the next page, the money shot!
Wonder Woman's awesome powers
After watching the Batman v Superman trailer, many should now say, yes, Gal Gadot looks good as Wonder Woman. Because she does - whether it is Diana Prince, whether it is her Amazonian alter-ego, she looks fabulous.
But this isn't the point - the point is that her bracelets alone can cause massive destruction, as seen in the trailer, when knocked one onto the other. In the comics, when crossed together, the bracelets can deflect massive attacks, far larger than the surface of the bracelets. And this is done through a semi-visible hemisphere which encompasses the wielder.
This also seems to be the case, with one extra-addition - not only it protects Wonder Woman, but it also destroys everything in its path.
Oh, in case you were wondering - we can bet that she is fighting on Batman's side, against Superman.
Next, the young and corrupted industrialist!
Lex Luthor
This was, by far for us, the best performance from the Batman v Superman trailer (if we may say so). Of course, it isn't too much to say about this, other than what was said before - how did he know about Superman's weakness and how did he get close enough to use the kryptonite?
But still - this Lex Luthor is also different from the previous ones: the campy Gene Hackman and the lame, real estate shark Kevin Spacey. Call us naïve, but Jesse Eisenberg looks actually evil. And we can actually see him posing a threat (physical or otherwise) for a god-like being such as Superman.
Next, under the sea!
Is that an Aquaman tease?
There isn't too much to tell in here. But there is a shot in the trailer (after what seemed to be a Themyscira setting, in which somebody dives into the sea, where a rather muscular figure can be seen, standing as if tied down.
If it is so, if this is Aquaman, we guess we can call debunked the rumors which said that the King of the Seven Seas is imprisoned by Lex Luthor.
On the next page, the villain which will unite the Justice League"¦
Zod – Doomsday?
Sure enough, it is a bit too early to see Doomsday fighting in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But what would be awesome is to have Doomsday in the last few minutes, searching for Superman (as in, I will find him, I will find him!), and demonstrating his awesome power. Cue the Justice League!
On the next page, a storyline for a future Batman outing!
The Bat Cave
Of course, we just presume that it is the Bat Cave. What is interesting in here are two things: the paper written in red and the Robin suit. You see where all of this is going, don't you?
Sure enough, this is flimsy. This is anorexic. This is wishful thinking. But a Robin was killed by the Joker and Batman is scolded for not saving his family - the one doing the scolding is surely not speaking about the Waynes deaths"¦
So yes, Batman v Superman may just setup a Red Hood adaptation.
One more thing needs to be added - Jeremy Irons looks and sounds awesome as Alfred Pennyworth!
