The Countdown To Avengers: Doomsday Has Officially Begun

Robert Downey Jr. on stage as Doctor Doom at San Diego Comic Con 2024 - Marvel Studios

The one-year countdown to Avengers: Doomsday is on. The Russo Brothers, aka Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. They also directed Infinity War as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War. Now, they’re returning to bring the Multiverse Saga to a close. The beginning of the end is coming our way next year.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18 next year. In honor of that being exactly one year away, the Russos released an official countdown clock on social media. The first of several planned Doomsday trailers is currently playing in theaters. It’s attached to select screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash but has yet to be released online. In any event, the marketing for this massive event within the MCU is officially underway.

While the trailer itself hasn’t been officially released, it did leak online. It confirmed that Chris Evans is returning as Steve Rogers for the first time since Endgame. He’s just one part of an absolutely massive cast that includes stars from nearly every Marvel era. And that’s just the actors that we know about. The Russos undoubtedly have some major surprises in store.

Here is the synopsis for Avengers: Doomsday.

“Doctor Doom has officially arrived in the MCU. This villain, a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic, will unleash a cascading crisis across the entire multiverse.”

Robert Downey Jr., who previously played Iron Man in the MCU, is playing Doctor Doom. That in itself is a massive deal as the biggest hero in the MCU is now playing one of its biggest villains. RDJ is receiving a king’s ransom for his participation. He’ll star in Doomsday as well as next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which are going to cost Disney and Marvel Studios a fortune.

Overall, Phase 6 of the MCU is going to be the smallest in years, at least in terms of movies. In total, it includes four titles. That list includes The Fantastic Four: First Steps and next summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, along with Doomsday and Secret Wars. Several shows will also arrive on Disney+ during that stretch, including Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 and X-Men ‘97 season 2.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars arrives on December 17, 2027.
