Chris Pine to Return in Wonder Woman 2?

Fan reaction to the romance between Wonder Woman’s Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) was overwhelmingly positive, so Trevor’s death at the film’s conclusion was particularly heart-breaking.

Rumors that Pine would return in the sequel (New title: Wonder Woman 1984) began to show up online almost immediately after the movie’s release. But how was that going to work? Movie magic, of course! Every possible theory has been put forth: He could appear as Trevor’s nephew or some other relative, in flashbacks, or even as the resurrected Trevor. But how would that work? The logical response could be that Dr. Maru's gas will save him.

Additional rumors began to swirl when Pine was spotted on the Wonder Woman 1984 set and director Patty Jenkins welcomed him via Twitter:

It’s likely that the circumstances of Trevor’s return in Wonder Woman 2 will remain a mystery for some time. And it’s still possible that Pine could be coming back as a different character or in flashbacks. We should keep in mind that the details about Trevor’s death were kept relatively vague, and he didn’t actually die onscreen, although Diana Prince referred to it in Justice League. But again, Maru's potions could have saved him, or even granted him some of superpower.

What do you make of this? Will Pine play the original Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman 1984?

Wonder Woman 1984 will be in theaters on November 1, 2019.
