X-Men #18 showcases a harsh reality that reminds us a struggling Spider-Man during the Clone Saga but handled much better here.
There is something about the Marvel writers that they love creating clones of famous characters. History speaks for itself as Jean Grey has her clone, Madeline Pryor, and Peter Parker has Ben Reilly. And now, Wolverine also has a clone! In the climax scene of X-Men #16, it was revealed that the original Laura Kinney didn’t die in the Vault and was in fact, still very much alive.
X-Men #16 was a product of combined creativity of Gerry Duggan, Joshua Cassara, Guru Efx, and VC’s Clayton Cowles. X-Men #18 by Gerry Duggan, C.F. Villa, Matt Milla, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, shows that the original Laura is back and meets up Wolverine and the X-Terminators, along with Synch. This was a similar scene when Spider-man struggled during his infamous Clone Saga but was handled much better and more tactfully.
Wolverine is Handling Her Clone Saga Better Than Spider-Man
When the future Laura and Wolverine meet, their conversation is meaningful yet brief and cut short to the point. They talk about indefinitely about Resurrection Protocols and the title of Wolverine. There is also a heartbreaking event when Future Laura tells the original one that she doesn’t want to see her or be friends with her. This applies to the entire Wolverine family. Even though they aren’t seen together much, but rules apply same for all. They set some ground rules together and maintain those boundaries to live peacefully. Even Future Laura is not willing to do it but she has to, in order to maintain peace.
For Spider-Man, this is a contrasting event. Peter and ben never talked about the dark stuff for years which eventually led to the events of Dark web. This could be prevented and stopped from happening, if they weren’t busy figuring out who out of them was the clone. Furthermore, Norman’s deceitful nature messed things up but in X-Men, Laura is seen coping up with things much better. She is not even an original, which she knows, but still she is acting like the peacemaker and is living her life as she pleases. Original Laura also didn’t fight with Wolverine and kept an open mind towards the crisis.
The Wolverines Are Learning to Move Forward
The wolverines are certainly looking forward to learning and moving forward in the right direction. Things weren’t easy for Future Laura as she lost track of time and didn’t even know how old is she but she held her ground. Everyone believed she was dead and now living with them again was not very mentally supportive. She found her happiness and continued living her life one day at a time. Such a situation wasn’t easy for her and took a lot of courage but she handled it calmly.
Following her father’s footsteps, she adapted his lessons and skills. This resulted in willing to work with others peacefully. The two Wolverines would never had talked without fighting but they did, thanks to her valuable lessons. On the other hand, Peter and Ben had some anger and resentment left in their hearts which led to so many problems rising. Here, Laura had been able to establish love and a coexisting bond because of her mindful nature.
