Doctor Strange is assembling a new Defenders team. This, according to Marvel, with the publishing teasing a new series set to arrive this summer. Unfortunately, for the time being, details are light. However, the company did release an intriguing cover on social media. Have a look.

As we can see, the Sorcerer Supreme is having a word with Masked Raider. Little context is provided but based on the word balloons “time itself” is at stake. Also, Doctor Strange’s magic is “alive,” though it’s hard to know exactly what that means just yet.
“Called together by Doctor Strange when Earth faces its greatest threats, the Defenders have always been Marvel’s most eclectic Super Hero team. Who will join him this time?” Marvel said about the upcoming series.
Currently, there is no word on who is writing the book or who is handling the art. We should expect to hear more in the not-too-distant future.
The group first appeared in the pages of Marvel Comics in 1971 via Marvel Feature #1. Originally, it was Namor, Doctor Strange and Hulk teaming up. The group has had many members over the years. The Netflix Defenders series saw Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up. It was like a small-screen version of what Marvel did with The Avengers.
Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Defenders Netflix series.
“Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil AKA Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist AKA Danny Rand (Finn Jones), a quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who reluctantly realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.”
Virtually nothing has been done with the group in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. That may change, as Charlie Cox is rumored to be appearing in Spider-Man 3 as Matt Murdock. Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch is gearing up to reprise his role as Doctor Strange in the sequel alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Cumberbatch is also returning for his own sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Perhaps Stephen Strange can head-up a big-screen version of the Defenders down the line?
