Keanu Reeves Comic BRZRKR Sells 600K Copies Causing Production Delay

The good news is that BRZRKR, the new Keanu Reeves comic, is selling like gangbusters. The bad news is that the book has been delayed yet again. As reported by Bleeding Cool, the upcoming series from Boom Studios has been pushed back by a month. It will now hit shelves on March 24.

“Due to high demand, and to ensure that the printer is able to maintain Boom’s high level of quality, the on-sale date for all editions of BRZRKR #1 including foil variants, has changed to March 24,” Boom said in a recent message to retailers.

Reeves is co-writing the series alongside Matt Kindt. It represents the first time that the John Wick star has ventured into writing comic books. That venture has proven to be quite popular. Not only did the book have a hugely successful Kickstarter but it has sold more than 600,000 advanced copies of its first issue. That will make it the biggest comic book debut in ages.

“Brzrkr #1 has surpassed over 600,000 copies— thank you to everyone for the amazing enthusiasm and support for this project on behalf of myself, Keanu, Matt K, Ross, Eric, Bill, Filip, Stephen, Matt G and all of the stellar people at Boom! Artist Ron Garney said on Facebook.

Here is the synopsis for BRZRKR #1.

“Discover the next blockbuster action franchise from the iconic KEANU REEVES in his Must Read comic book writing debut alongside New York Times best-selling co-writer Matt Kindt (Folklords, Bang!) and acclaimed artist Alessandro Vitti (Marvel’s Secret Warriors) in a brutally violent new series about one immortal warrior’s fight through the ages. The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence… and how to end it”

Given Reeves’ involvement, speculation was already running rampant regarding a possible Hollywood adaptation. Give the book’s strong sales out of the gate, it seems inevitable that a studio will snatch up the rights. It doesn’t hurt that the title character, unsurprisingly, looks an awful lot like Reeves

BRZRKR #1 hits shelves on March 24.
