Marvel has released a new trailer for Fantastic Four: Reckoning War Alpha #1. This is a big event that is going to involve a legendary war being reunited. And it all flows through Marvel’s first family. Not to use an overused word here, but it looks, in a word, epic. Have a look. 

Fantastic Four: Reckoning War Alpha #1 Trailer 

 

This was one of eight universe-shaping titles announced by Marvel earlier in the year. In this case, the Fantastic Four are teaming up with a roster of other heroes to stop something truly terrible. The book comes from writer Dan Slott. This big issue will kick things off, but the story will carry on in the main Fantastic Four run. 

 

Here is the synopsis for Fantastic Four: Reckoning War Alpha #1. 

 

“In a time before the Kree, Skrull or Shi’ar Empires. Before the emergence of Galactus. Before the birth of Asgard. There was the First War. The greatest war to ever rage across the Multiverse. Today, it is reignited. This is the Day of Reckoning. And all that stands between all of reality and revenge from the dawn of time are the heroes of Earth, the Fantastic Four and the mind of Mister Fantastic. Starring the FF, She-Hulk, Jack of Hearts, the Unseen, the Silver Surfer and everyone in the whole damn Marvel Universe.”

 

Slott had this to say to Newsarama about it. 

 

“When I was eight years old I read a particular Marvel comic that struck me. It got me thinking ‘If this happened, and that happened, then the whole Marvel universe would be in trouble. Every facet would be in danger if this conflict happened again, and I’ve sat back and waited since I was eight years old and no one ever touched on this. And that made me happy. The Reckoning War is me finally being able to answer the question an eight-year-old me had: What if those guys showed up again? It’s chaos, madness… A fight for your life. This is my Star Wars.”

 

This appears to be a very ambitious story. It is diving deep into the past, even pre-dating Asgard. That makes this ancient by Marvel standards. Meanwhile, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are awaiting the arrival of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie reboot. The film has been announced but is without a release date. Jon Watts, director of the Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy, is in the director’s chair for that one.
