Captain America And Sharon Carter Were Living Together In Avengers: Infinity War’s Early Draft!

Had it not been for Kevin
, we would have probably found Steve
, aka Captain America, and
Sharon Carter, the great-niece of Peggy Carter, living together in the first
act of Avengers: Infinity War.

In Captain America:
Civil War
, we saw Cap and Sharon sharing a passionate kiss before the whole
airport battle takes place. But Emily VanCamp’s character was nowhere to be
found in the follow-ups, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, although Chris
’ character was front and center in both movies. And there was not
even a single mention of her in either of the Marvel Cinematic Universe entries.

Similarly, Avengers: Age of Ultron sowed the seeds of a romantic relationship between Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, and Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, but it wasn’t developed either in the third and fourth Avengers installments. When Yahoo asked about that relationship in a new interview, screenwriter Christopher Markus responded by saying that the two movies were so plot-driven there wasn’t a ton of time to take any side trips. He suggested that they attempted to nod at it multiple times, but it felt like checking a box.

Then, the other scribe Stephen McFeely tried to offer a further explanation. And that’s when he revealed that they originally intended Avengers: Infinity War to find Captain America in a domestic partnership with Sharon Carter, instead of finding him as a fugitive vigilante conducting clandestine missions along with Black Widow. In his words:

Anything that was not
about Stones, Thanos, 'We're in trouble’ - this propulsive narrative - got
jettisoned. We tried to sew up all sorts of things. We had first drafts where
Steve was living with Sharon Carter, and it wasn't going very well.

For better or worse, probably better, Marvel Studios
president Kevin Feige wasn’t a big fan of that idea. According to Markus:

And those are the
moments where Kevin comes in and goes, ‘What the hell are you doing?’

Sharon didn’t get to have more intimate moments with the
proud owner of America’s Ass, but we
are positive that her great-aunt Peggy surely did get a lot of that. We are looking
forward to see how Sharon reacts to that when she appears next in the Disney+
series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
