Ant-Man and the Wasp is scheduled for release on July 6, 2018, and Marvel Studios is looking forward to starting production this July at Pinewood Atlanta Studios. And while there aren't many months left before cameras start rolling, the studio still hasn’t been in touch with Michael Pena about his return.
Pena, who portrayed Luis, an original character in Peyton Reed's Ant-Man, isn't sure whether he’ll be back in the sequel, as Marvel hasn't made any contact with him. The 41-year-old actor recently chatted with Collider about his upcoming projects, including CHiPs and The Lego Ninjago Movie. He was asked about his potential return in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and responded:
No, no, I haven't gotten the phone call yet. I don't know if I'm gonna get the phone call. Who knows?
Considering the fact that Luis was one of the most entertaining characters in the original movie, we’re not thrilled to hear that the studio still hasn't locked the very in-demand actor down for the sequel. It also feels a bit strange, as a report from last August suggested that he would surely reprise the character in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Pena revealed to CBR in 2015 that he had signed a three-movie contract with Marvel, but also insisted that they may let him go:
Yeah, there are three movies. I think they have the option to drop me if they want "” which could happen! [Laughs] You never know.
At the moment, the cast roster for Ant-Man and the Wasp features only three confirmed names: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas. Peyton Reed is returning to take the helm. Rudd, Adam McKay, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari are working on the script.
