The Joker: First-Look Launched!

UPDATE:Jared Leto has shared a new photo of his bulked-up physique for the role of The Joker. We've also got a number of new photo of the actor with those green hair!

Meanwhile, Jack Nicholson, The Joker of 1989 Batman venture has come up with a video that expresses his reaction on Leto's first-look as The Joker. You can catch up all these updated stuff at the end part of this post.

A month and a twenty odd days ago, Jared Leto revealed his haircut for the role of The Joker in Suicide Squad, and now, we finally have the first official look of how the Clown Prince of Crime will exactly look in the 2016 venture! To celebrate the 75th birthday of the character, David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad, has revealed the first official photo of Leto as The Joker.

As previous rumors suggested, Jared Leto has indeed come up with a very unique version of The Joker - very different from those of Nicholson and Ledger. Not only that, we haven’t seen such a representation of the character, not even in the comic books!

Check out the photo first and then have an in-depth look!

The Joker Official first-look at The Joker

His Face – Literally Says DAMAGED!

The Joker Leto's Joker looks very different from previous ones!

You must have noticed the tattoo on Leto’s forehead saying ‘Damaged’, and that’s what those teeth with some metal caps, those tiny markings on his face, those eyes and that laughter say.

We heard rumors that Suicide Squad would talk about a previous encounter of The Joker and Batman, and those teeth seem to suggest exactly the same – a punch from the Caped Crusader would be enough to do that! The ‘Damaged’ tattoo is doubtlessly an ironic statement made by the supervillain.

Unlike Heath Ledger’s version of The Joker, Leto’s doesn’t have scars along his lips, that face isn't painted and those hairs aren’t curly and long, rather short and green, much like Nicholson’s version. The face seems to promise more sickness in this version than the ones of Nicholson and Ledger.

His Body – Way Too Many TATTOOS!

The Joker Leto's Joker has way too many tattoos!

It seems there are eight different tattoos on The Joker’s body – excluding the one on his ungloved hand and the one on his forehead. Eventually, there may be more than that as the photo doesn’t reveal his back and below his stomach.

The ‘Hahaha’ tattoos on the left part of his chest and on his left forearm are pretty similar in font with the ones used in The Killing Joke. There’s the card tattoo on his left shoulder accompanied by the words ‘All in’. That’s an iconic piece of imagery when it comes to the Clown Prince of Crime.

On the right part of his chest, there’s the tattoo of a skull with a jester’s hat – that seems to draw a connection with Harley Quinn. Maybe Harley gets the inspiration from that in Suicide Squad, not too sure though.

The ‘laughter’ tattoos on his right forearm and on his left hand seem to be a nod to the classic laughter of the character.

The tattoo on his right bicep appears to be a robin, and that seems to bear the evidence of a prevailing rumor – The Joker has already killed a sidekick of the Caped Crusader. The tattoo is most likely a trophy of sorts after he killed Robin.

There are two tattoos on Leto’s body that remain unclear. One of them is on his stomach while the other on the right side of his body just below the armpit.

His Hands – Purple Glove & A RING!

The Joker The purple glove isn't anything new, but!

We’ve seen The Joker wearing purple gloves in most comic book stories prior to the mid-to-late 1990s. So, a purple glove isn’t anything new with the character, except the fact that you only see it on the right hand while the other remains bare.

As mentioned previously, the ungloved hand, i.e. the left hand, bears a ‘laughter’ tattoo. But the strangest thing about this hand is the ring that we see on the little finger. That’s not at all Joker-esque. But obviously, there is some kind of a significance of the ring that is still hidden to us.

A Little Commentary

The Joker First look of Ledger's Joker had also been criticized!

Well, there might be some fans who are finding it hard to welcome such a look of The Joker as it isn’t anywhere near to any incarnation of the character. But a first-look photo isn’t going to tell you all about a character.

You might remember that even Ledger’s first-look photo went through serious criticism but eventually the character turned out to be one of the best incarnations we’ve ever seen. So, something similar may happen in case of Leto’s version too.
