The following contains major spoilers for Batman: Beyond the White Knight #5, available now from DC Comics.

Interestingly, the third entry in Batman: Beyond the White Knight #6 is not an original. It is actually a remix of Frank Miller’s iconic Bat-story with its war on Derek Powers and the fascist military state of Gotham. This remix is a sequel to Batman: Curse of the White Knight.

So finally, 10 years after Curse of the White Knight, Batman: Beyond the White Knight comes on-screen and what do we see, Brice Wayne is imprisoned. On the other hand, Derek Powers has full command over Wayne Enterprises. He has created his own army now with Dick Grayson leading it.

The Possession Twist Has Been Used Twice

In this edition, it is seen that Jack is possessing Batman’s body to help him escape Blight’s soldiers. Jack wants Bruce to survive this battle. What made us connect this twist to Frank Miller’s iconic Bat story is that it had a similar angle.  Also, Batman: Arkham Knight saw a dead joker leaving a gift for Bruce- a blood transfusion that brings new jokers into the picture. This led to Bruce imagining stuff and hallucinating the clowns. This same thing was seen exactly in Murphy’s story.

Beyond the White Knight’s Possession Has Nuance

Joker is more than a hero and all these speculations made the joker an antagonist. Both tend to go along well with each other. This dynamic duo has fun with each other. So, we can agree that Batman: Beyond the White Knight #5 also sees some nuance to it.

Both Pur heroes are glued to each other feeling some sort of compassion and empathy. This feels like Jack is a Robin to Bruce, unlike their previous rivalry.
