The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been known for experimenting and creating something distinct to surprise its viewers. It has succeeded time and again with its outlandish visuals, gigantic characters, and perfect timing. Marvel has held its ground strong for years now and we know it is going to prevail for generations to come. Growing up watching Marvel Shared universe, some of the biggest superhero movies, and the best-animated stories, Marvel has set a benchmark.
This year has been huge for Marvel studios as it made big numbers on movies. Along with MCU’s comedy projects, there is a lot of space for diversifying into different genres. As far as comedy is concerned, it is not as easy as it looks. Comedy roots much deeper.
MCU’s Comedic Tone
Marvel’s Comic book adaptations continue to break box office records and take over the space. This proves how convenient this option is and how much it can give back to you. When superheroes become funny, say, for instance, Doctor Strange, the viewers bond better. Marvel has tried its hands down a lot of things but hasn’t invested much in comedy styles or sitcoms much. To gear up its game in comedy, Marvel needs to work on verbal components before anything. Superheroes talking funny need to be classy. We’re sure Marvel can do it.
The Success of She-Hulk
Stepping into a new territory takes some damage control and Marvel’s audience is also familiar with this. When She-Hulk made a blast at the box office, it became the first Marvel Studios Sitcom to move into a new segment. This new territory was different from what fans expected but was welcomed with joy. She-Hulk went on for a long time with quick episodes to bond with the audience.
They gave way to the new segment and let in air to breathe. Seeing She-Hulk survive comfortably in the wider universe was like breaking the stereotypes and creating something out of risk. And it paid off! A lot of sitcoms go on and on for seasons and never fail to impress. This could be one of them.
Groot and Thor Shorts
Showcasing I am Groot on disney+ is no joke. We are not saying this is a breakthrough but streaming on Disney+ seems promising. A silent film with slapstick scenarios and plenty of physical gags, I am Groot is a smaller-scale comedy movie. Even the mockumentary styling of Team Thor is a brilliant example of something that resonated with the audience. Such experiments can make or break the game but with Marvel, it looks like it has given a level up. We are sure this is going to be huge in the upcoming seasons.
Is Marvel Producing More Comedies?
Small-scale movies, comedy titles, and sitcoms have been doing well for marvel but that doesn’t give us a hint of it working towards it more diligently. A lot of projects are lined up for Marvel and are set to release in Phases 5 and 6. These unannounced projects can be anything, we aren’t as sure.
Whether or not Marvel should go down this path, is a tricky question. Marvel has achieved success on a smaller level in the comedy genre with the past releases of She-Hulk, I Am Groot, and Team Thor. These exciting projects have given a lot more than was expected of them. Introducing new characters, worlds and creative formats can require the brains of the team altogether. What really connects with the audience is tough to crack if it has to go on for seasons. But for all we know, Marvel will make it big in the comedy genre if it ever plans to!
