The New Thunderbolts Cast Makes Total Sense for the MCU, Here’s Why

Phase 5 of the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with new releases. One of which includes Thunderbolts, which is set to release in 2024. This film is based on the Marvel comics of the same name. Thunderbolts is going to be the conclusion to Marvel’s Phase 5 of the Multiverse saga and will bring together former villains and anti-heroes. It has a very vast and complicated history in Marvel comics but is arguably one of the best to exist.

The 2024 release has an ensemble of a wild cast that makes total sense. It couldn’t be better! The full character lineup in its panel was revealed at D23 2022. As previously revealed, Valentina Fontaine is a part of the film along with Ghost, Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, the Winter Soldier, US Agent, and Taskmaster.

Valentina and the Winter Soldier

Valentina’s character in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is no news. She was capable of patronizing John Walker into working with her and for all we know, she can’t be trusted. She has her missions and will go far to make them happen. At D23, Kevin Feige expressed, “Winter Soldier is the most stable among them” and this means the team is in trouble! Furthermore, the most venerable MCU of the bunch is Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier. He is the only weapon that can waive off Valentina’s corrupt ideas.

Black Widow and the Winter Soldier

Now, there’s one whole history there. The Winter Soldier tried to kill Black Widow more than three times throughout the years! If they are coming together again, that is not happy news. Black Widow is determined to get revenge and double-cross Bucky this time. Any silver lining through this phase seems to be Yelena who considers Black Widow her family. She can handle things with more calm and understanding.

The Black Widow Family

When the entire Black Widow Family is brought together, it counts as a kickstart for Phase 5. Putting Yelena, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster is simply delightful. Thunderbolts takes place more than a decade after the events of Black Widow so who know what all characters have transformed into? This will be revealed only when the super movie releases.

The Super Soldiers

The three super soldiers who are on board are not really happy to be aligned with each other. Bucky and John Walker have had a violent past but still, they were able to work together and survive. Another scenario of putting a US Agent and Red Guardian in a room means inviting sheer trouble. The good thing is having Winter Soldier and Red Guardian together which will put away a lot of mysteries and make life easy for us.

Red Guardian and Ghost

The Ghost, Hannah John-Kamen played a woman who was accidentally given the power to phase through solid matter in a childhood science accident. She being on board Thunderbolts can be possible only with the Taskmaster. Even Red Guardian can connect with Ghost and avoid a hefty blast and fight on screen. The cast is absurd yet perfect in its own space.

For more insights on Thunderbolts, we’ll just have to wait until it hits theatres on July 26, 2024.
