PSA: Marvel’s Behind the Mask is Now Streaming on Disney+

Marvel fans have something brand new to watch on Disney+. A brand new documentary titled Behind the Mask is now available on the streaming service. It takes a look at the comic book origins of many characters that have now become pop culture icons. This includes the likes of Black Panther, the X-Men and many more.

Michael Jacobs directed the documentary. Chris Gary and Ryan Simon are producers for Tarmac Creative and Strike Anywhere. Executive producers include Joe Quesada, Shane Rahmani, Stephen Wacker, John Cerilli, Harry Go, and Sarah Amos for Marvel.

Here is the synopsis for Behind the Mask

“Marvel’s Behind the Mask will feature guests from across Marvel’s 80-year legacy, including the writers and artists behind the rise of characters like Black Panther, Miles Morales, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage, the X-Men, Captain Marvel, and many other characters in the Marvel Universe, highlighting Marvel’s impact on pop culture and media.”

“So much of the pop-culture imagination around Marvel is now through the movies,” Director Michael Jacobs said in a recent interview with Variety.  “This is a nice reminder that that intellectual property was created a long time ago by some really smart, intelligent people who had amazing ideas and amazing artistry and narrative strength. … They did fall into stereotypes, and they did make mistakes. But there was still something uniquely special about making these comic books and creating these characters.”

This is the latest in a big wave of Marvel content making its way to Disney+. Very little MCU content was available when the streaming service launched in November 2019. But now, more than a year later, that has been ramping up. Understandably, Disney wants to make one of its biggest brands a huge part of the service as time goes on.

WandaVision is in the middle of its first season. The show is the first in a new wave of live-action MCU shows that are connected heavily to the movies. And there are many more coming in the next few years. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Ironheart, Secret Invasion and Armor Wars are all on the way. The short series Marvel Studios Legends is, additionally, available now.

Disney+ has become one of the most popular streaming services on the planet. According to the company’s recent quarterly earnings report, they now have 95 million subscribers worldwide.
