It seems like Patty Jenkins is providing Cheetah with a new origin story in Wonder Woman 1984.
We've known for over a year that Barbara Ann Minerva, aka Cheetah, will make her live-action cinematic debut in Wonder Woman 1984, with Kristen Wiig set to play the character. Even though principal photography on the project has concluded last December, we'll have to wait for over a year to see Wiig bringing her to life on big screen.
But a new rumor has surfaced on web that might generate a lot of discussion and debate within the fan community concerning the supervillain. According to Beyond The Trailer creator/host Grace Randolph, the origin story provided to Cheetah in the second solo outing for Gal Gadot's Amazon warrior-princess is different from the ones in the source material.
Randolph has learned that Wiig's Minerva in the movie is more of a fan of Gadot's Diana Prince. She apparently makes a wish (to whom or what is not mentioned) to be like her, something that goes horribly wrong. Check out her tweet below!
I'm hearing the origin of #Cheetah in #WW1984 has been totally changed – and that now she's more of a fan who makes a wish to be like #WonderWoman which goes horribly wrong. How would you feel about that?

This rumor pretty much falls in line with another one from last summer that pointed towards Minerva starting off as a friend to Diana in Wonder Woman 1984. At first, she emulates the superhero, before having a change of heart and eventually seeking to usurp her.
It must be noted that four different characters have taken up the mantle of Cheetah in the pages of DC Comics over the years. And just the Minerva version has had multiple different origins. So, Patty Jenkins and her writing team, which includes herself along with Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, going on to create an entirely new one doesn't seem like a deplorable act.
