Previous reports suggested that a bunch of Spider-Man villains – such as The Chameleon, The Tarantula and Tombstone - will appear in Sony Pictures' Silver and Black. But it also appears that the movie will introduce a more iconic Spider-Man nemesis: the one and only Norman Osborn, aka Green Goblin.
That Hashtag Show recently reported that the character, portrayed by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series and Chris Cooper in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will return in the Gina Prince-Bythewood flick. But don't expect him to show up in the flesh, because the website added that this would be a minor, voice-only role.
While it looks like Osborn won't make an actual onscreen appearance, there will be plenty in the upcoming superhero movie to indicate his presence. THS suggested that Oscorp Senior VP Charles Standish will appear in the movie as the supervillain's "messenger…and…the onscreen face of the company". Check out the video report below!
Sony’s alleged plan for Norman Osborn in Silver and Black is particularly interesting, as it allows Marvel Studios to cast an actor of their choice for the part at any time they might plan to use him down the road. According to Amy Pascal, Sony's SpiderVerse and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are separate entities that share the "same reality". Having two different actors serve as the face of Osborn would cause confusion.
And there’s already a quite bit of confusion about the February 8, 2019 release, which reportedly features Mac Gargan, a character portrayed by Michael Mando in Spider-Man: Homecoming. We’re not sure whether Mando will reprise the role or Sony will hire another actor for the part. Maybe the confusion will be cleared up once the studio has a better idea about what they’re sharing with Marvel and what they’re not. At the moment, they don't seem to have figured that out!
