Darker and More Gruesome Hellboy Reboot Could Begin Filming this Year!

Hellboy reboot may kick off production in just four months!

Despite Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman's never-ending efforts, Hellboy III: Dark Worlds failed to attract any producers. But now, an R-rated reboot is in development, with Neil Marshall directing and David Harbour starring as the titular superhero. According to a fresh rumor, the new movie may move into production in a few months.

A rumor put forward by The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit suggested that the reboot’s producers are eager to get production underway by mid-September. However, this isn’t set in stone, and they’ll need to have everything working in their favor to get the cameras rolling in such a short period of time. If there's any truth to the rumor, they’ve probably set their sights on a late 2018 release date. Check out Kit's tweet:

We don’t know about the production schedule or a release date, but Andrew Cosby has provided us with a clearer idea of what to expect. Cosby is penning the script, along with Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, and he promised during a recent interview with Silver Screen Beat that the attempted R-rating definitely means something:

I can't really talk about specifics with regard to the story, which they're keeping a pretty tight lid on at the moment, but I can say that this is a darker, more gruesome version of Hellboy. Neil said from the very beginning that he wanted to walk a razor's edge between horror and comic book movie, which was music to my ears, because that's what I was shooting for in the script, and precisely what Mignola does so well with the comics.

The writer goes on to claim that they’ve put in a lot of hard work to get the script into shape, and they’ll continue to do so until it’s perfect:

Honestly, everyone has just been working overtime to bring that Mignola magic to the big screen. The script is done, but work will continue as we move forward, always trying to make it the best it can be.
