Matthew Vaughn talked to JoBlo and revealed some new interesting details about his future plans, including Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3. Now, we all want him to reiterate the amazing work he did with Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class. Vaughn is currently one of the most sought after directors of sci-fi and fantasy movies.
Kick-Ass 2 failed to rise to fans' expectation - in fact, Vaughn himself admits they "lost a few fans on Kick-Ass 2" - but, hey, but we can't put that on Matthew Vaughn. It was Jeff Wadlow who helmed the sequel. Will Vaughn return to claim the director's chair and revamp the franchise? Will he direct - or oversee in whatever other capacity - Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3? See his take on the matter below.
Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3: straight from Matthew Vaughn
Kingsman: The Secret Service is only one day away from release (February 13th in the USA). Before the premiere, Vaughn let JoBlo in on his future developments. When asked about Kick-Ass 3, here's what Vaughn said:
"Do you know what’s going to be next if I do it… we’ve finished plotting it. What we have to do is, we’ve got to do the FIRST CLASS to the KICK-ASS world. We lost a few fans on Kick-Ass 2. It wasn’t as loved as one would’ve hoped. So we have this idea for a Hit Girl prequel. It’s a really strong, really simple prequel where I think we can regain the love and the passion. If that happens, I’m pretty sure I can persuade Aaron and Chloe to come back and finish the story of Kick-Ass with Kick-Ass 3."
How will Vaughn convince Chloe Grace Moretz to return as Hit-Girl? Back in August 2014 she confessed the following to Digital Spy: "Sadly, I think I’m done with the character ["¦] Hit-Girl was a very cool character, but I don’t think there will be any more movies".
That remains to be seen. The bottom line is Vaughn sees Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3 clearly interconnected, which means he'll need Moretz on board to pull this off. But is this more than a producer's dream? Vaughn further shares:
"Mark and I have already plotted Hit Girl. We have to get the script done next. It’s so far out there, you have no idea" (sure, his reference is to Mark Millar, writer of the comic book).
As to who's going to direct Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass 3, this is what Vaughn replies: "No, I wouldn’t direct. We spoke about it to Gareth Evans a couple of years ago. I’d get someone like that, a really bold, clever director. Most of it is set in the far east".
Whether it's going to be Gareth Evans or someone else - that remains to be seen. In the meanwhile, share your thoughts with us and let us know if you're excited about the Hit-Girl prequel and the Kick-Ass 3 sequel Matthew Vaughn seems to be so wrapped up with these days!
