Back in late 1980s, Alan Moore created the DC Comics limited series named Watchmen. Even though a number of attempts were made since the publication of the series to come up with a live-action adaptation, we had to wait until 2009 when Zack Snyder finally made a big-screen flick out of it. Snyder's Watchmen could not impress everyone but surely it wasn't a disaster - at least far better than Josh Trank's Fant4stic!
Many complained that the nature of story of Moore's Watchmen isn't easy-going enough to adapt for big-screen - a television series would have been a better option they suggested. And that's what seems to be happening ultimately!
Discussions have happened over a live-action television series based on the graphic novel that grabbed a spot in Time's List of the 100 Best Novels!
Zack Snyder & HBO Talked Over Watchmen!
According to Collider, Zack Snyder - the vanguard of the DC Extended Universe - has been meeting with HBO over developing a Watchmen TV series. The site isn't able to offer any further details, but they did manage to grab a confirmation statement from HBO on their report. Here's what the television network stated:
"Preliminary discussions regarding Watchmen have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place."
So, talks have indeed happened over the series but it seems to be in super-early days of development. And already with so many failed attempts to adapt Watchmen in live-action, we can't be very excited about it.
But don't forget that HBO's most popular series Games of Throne is heading towards an end - so a DC Comics adaptation might be something they will look forward to eagerly. Since Zack Snyder's Watchmen had to be R-Rated, HBO seems to be the perfect home for a series if made!
