Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Is The Final Chapter Of Miles’ Story

It’s the beginning of the end for the Miles Morales saga. Next summer will finally see the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. This is the third entry in the trilogy that started with Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. Now though, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have confirmed that this latest movie is going to conclude Miles’ story.

Taking the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas recently, Lord and Miller presented a new clip from Beyond the Spider-Verse saying, ““Welcome to the final chapter of Miles’ story.” There we have it. The sequel, which is being directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, will conclude the saga. Sony evidently won’t try to milk this cow any further with a fourth entry. That doesn’t mean we won’t get spin-offs or anything like that, but this will seemingly give fans a proper conclusion.

2023’s Across the Spider-Verse left on a cliffhanger. The footage shown at CinemaCon was a clip rather than a trailer. It confirmed that the new movie will pick up where the last one left off. Per The Hollywood Reporter, here’s what the footage looked like.

“Miles is tied up and trying to talk his way to freedom, when he is approached by another version of himself — who also goes by Miles Morales but says he can call him “The Prowler.” They are both bewildered by the discovery of the multi-verse identities and fight over the different ways they are pronouncing “Morales” — with what degree of accent — and their respective fashion senses.

The two Mileses continue to fight, until the original version warns he doesn’t want to hurt his captors, as they laugh — until electricity surges through his hands and he runs free. Sony also offered up a supercut of pieces from throughout the film, which showcases a wide variety of animation styles as Miles fights battles both in and outside of himself, and is joined by his sidekick characters from the past films.”

Beyond the Spider-Verse was delayed several times. It was originally supposed to come out in 2024, but the creative process took much longer than the filmmakers expected. Given the high bar that they’ve set with the first two movies, nobody involved wants to compromise. Especially in light of the fact that this is going to bring the whole enterprise to a close.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

“Miles Morales returns for the final chapter of Sony Pictures Animation’s Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Hunted by Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society and betrayed by his friends, Miles finds himself in the darkest corners of the Spider-Verse in search of a way home. Knowing that his family has been not only fractured but endangered by his calling, it’s a race against the clock for Miles to travel across the wildest reaches of time and space to fight for and reunite everything he holds most dear.”

Sony also has Spider-Man: Brand New Day on deck, which also had a showing at the event. Brand New Day’s trailer shattered the record for the most views in 24 hours, suggesting enormous interest. While Tom Holland’s Spidey is getting a fourth movie, it sounds like Miles Morales won’t get that same treatment.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hits theaters on June 18, 2027.
