At long last, The Brave and the Bold movie is moving forward. The project was first announced in early 2023 by DC Studios co-head James Gunn. This is meant to be the introduction of the new Batman in the new DC Universe. The movie will see him team up with the Damian Wayne version of Robin. Now, we finally know who will be penning the script.
As was first reported by The InSneider, Christina Hodson is set to pen the screenplay. Andy Muschietti (The Flash) is still attached to direct. However, that is dependent on Muschietti’s availability when it’s time for cameras to roll. Hodson previously worked on The Flash script, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg for her work in the DC Universe. She also penned the Harley Quinn movie Birds of Prey, released in 2020.
Aside from that, Hodson also wrote the Batgirl movie, which would have brought back Michael Keaton as Batman once again. Famously though, Warner Bros. scrapped the movie after it had already been completely filmed. It never saw the light of day. Some of Hodson’s other credits include the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee and the upcoming Fast and Furious 11.
Amazingly, Hodson wrote yet another DC movie that never got made. She wrote a script for a Batman Beyond movie that Warner Bros. didn’t move forward with. Even though it feels like a lot of her DC work hasn’t panned out, with both The Flash and Birds of Prey disappointing at the box office, the studio clearly loves her work. Maybe this will finally be the project where it all comes together.
“This is the introduction of the DCU’s Batman,” Gunn said when The Brave and the Bold was first announced. “It is not Robert Pattinson, it’s not Ben Affleck…But this is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son, who he didn’t know existed for the first eight to 10 years of his life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s a little son of a b****, he’s my favorite Robin. It’s based on the Grant Morrison comic book run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs, and we are putting that all together right now.”
Robert Pattinson of The Batman fame won’t suit up in this movie. Rather, Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran will cast a new Bruce Wayne. He will become the main Batman in the DCU alongside David Corenswet’s Superman and whoever they cast as the new Wonder Woman. There’s currently no timetable for production and it’s not clear how far along the script is. Gunn has made it clear that this movie won’t fully get going until The Batman Part II arrives next year.
The Brave and the Bold doesn’t currently have a release date.
