The Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue on for at least another handful of years. Not only does Marvel Studios have to wrap up the Multiverse Saga, but Disney has officially begun planting flags for the future. Three new, mystery Marvel movies have been given 2028 release dates. That means these will presumably be the first entries in Phase 7 of the MCU. What are they, exactly? That’s up for speculation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, three new Marvel movies have been given 2028 release dates. The untitled films are set to arrive on February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028 and November 10, 2028. The report also notes that the long-awaited Blade reboot has lost its 2025 release date. No new release date was given, leaving the project on uncertain ground. At this point, it probably won’t arrive before Phase 6 concludes in 2027.
The MCU is in the midst of what has been dubbed the Multiverse Saga. The Infinity Saga concluded with the end of Phase 4 when Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home hit theaters in 2019. Phase 5 has been a little uneven, with huge hits like Spider-Man: No Way Home to go with big messes such as The Marvels. Other films such as Eternals failed to generate new solo franchises as hoped.
Looking ahead, 2025 will see the release of Captain America: Brave New World in February. That will be followed by Thunderbolts in May, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps rounding things out in July. Thunderbolts was originally pegged as the conclusion of Phase 5. Rather than an Avengers movie, we’re getting a bunch of villains and anti-heros teaming up, not unlike DC’s Suicide Squad. Sony is also currently working on Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland, which is expected to begin filming next year.
Phase 6 will end with a bang as Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are set to arrive in May 2026 and May 2027, respectively. Doomsday will see Robert Downey Jr. return to the MCU as Doctor Doom. RDJ previously played Iron Man for more than a decade. Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed both Infinity War and Endgame, are returning to direct both films. Production is expected to begin next year.
As for what lies ahead? Nothing has been confirmed. We know that Marvel has an X-Men reboot in development. Projects like Shang-Chi 2 have also been announced. Then there are seemingly surefire bets, such as Doctor Strange 3. Anything else? It’s difficult to say as a whole lot is going to change between now and 2028.
Thunderbolts hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
