Judge Dredd Live-Action Series in the Works; Title and Poster Revealed!

This year marks Judge Dredd's fortieth anniversary, but fans now have another reason to celebrate. A live-action series featuring the badass law enforcement officer is in the works!

EW confirmed that Rebellion Developments sealed a deal with IM Global Television to develop a show titled Judge Dredd: Mega City One. Executive producers include studio president Mark Stern and CEO Stuart Ford, as well as the owners of the UK-based game developer and publisher, Jason and Chris Kingsley. According to EW:

The potential show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. The plan is to make the series an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.

The Judge Dredd series is still in the early stages of development, and hasn't been picked up by a network. But the first poster for the series has been released, and you can check it out here:

It’s unclear whether the new show will have any connection with the Pete Travis-directed 2012 flick Dredd. The movie failed to prove its worth at the box office, despite garnering positive critical reviews. It later earned recognition as a cult film as a result of impressive home media sales.

Around a year ago, lead actor Karl Urban acknowledged that a sequel was unlikely, but he did hint at the possibility of a Netflix or Amazon series. So, whether we'll see Urban’s return as Judge Dredd, or we're about to deal with another Ron Perlman and Hellboy situation, remains to be seen.
