Wonder Woman’s Backstory Changed after Batman v Superman's Poor Reception

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had its detractors, we can’t deny that it hit all the right notes (including that amazing tune) with Wonder Woman. Nearly everyone doubted Gal Gadot’s acting ability, but she proved to a strong addition to the DC Extended Universe, and her role was cemented when her first solo film became the shared universe’s first critical success.

However, one detail has bugged us since Wonder Woman rolled into theaters. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Diana Prince said that she had left mankind behind. At the time, we assumed that it had something to do with World War I, but it became clear by the end of Wonder Woman that the superheroine had accepted her role as a protector of mankind.

The most awesome superhero introduction (Warner Bros.)

Does that mean that the sequel, which will reportedly take place at the height of the Cold War, will explain what she meant? And will the movie explain why she was absent during Zod's invasion?

Not really, since the character changed, and her story was retconned due to the criticism heaped on Batman v Superman. Gadot made the reveal while promoting Justice League in Beijing. Check out the clip below:

She summed things up as follows:

In a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision, but then you can always correct it and change it.

This is quite a major change, and it leaves this question unanswered: Why didn't she help Superman in the fight against Zod? With her experience, she could have easily subdued the Kryptonian.

In light of this reveal, we wonder if the backstories of other familiar characters were also altered (we really want Robin to be dead so we see an appearance by Red Hood).

Justice League will be released on November 17.
