This March 28 has an epic crossover between CBS's Supergirl and The CW's The Flash in store for us. Despite being aired on two different networks, these two shows have a lot in common, like the return of stars from past DC Comics-based shows or movies.
The Flash has brought back John Wesley Shipp (Barry Allen in 1990's The Flash) as Henry Allen and Mark Hamill as Trickster from the same series. Supergirl, on the other hand, has introduced Helen Slater (Kara Danvers in 1984's Supergirl) and Dean Cain (Superman in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) as Kara's foster parents. They also added Laura Vandervoort (Kara in Smallville) as Indigo.
And now, the executive producers of the CBS series have revealed that their plans involve the 1970s' Wonder Woman! While talking to Entertainment Weekly, Greg Berlanti shares that they wanted to bring Lynda Carter to Supergirl this season, but couldn't do it because of a scheduling conflict. However, he's confident about adding the 64-year-old actress next season, and goes on to tell EW, “We had the perfect role for Lynda Carter. We couldn't work out her schedule. Next year.”
Andrew Kreisberg seems even more assured than Berlanti about Lynda Carter, saying, “We're going to do it; we'll just do it next year.”
Supergirl hasn't been renewed for a second season yet. But it seems highly unlikely that CBS would not provide the green light for Season 2, considering the fact that the series is quite popular, and that it won a People's Choice Award for "Favorite New TV Drama".
What role would Lynda Carter play in Supergirl?
If the Wonder Woman star eventually joins the CBS series, what role could she play? Well, you don't need to speculate anymore, because Greg Berlanti has disclosed her prospective role:
All right, she's the female president of the United States.
This might further stimulate the never-ending debate about whether Supergirl is a feminist show or not!
