Warner Bros. Boss Says DCEU Has "A Little Room For Improvement"!

Warner Bros. released the second and third DC Extended Universe installments this year and have plans to release at least two every year until 2020. While they are satisfied with the performances of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, they do expect better from their upcoming movies. That’s what Time Warner chairman-CEO Jeff Bewkes made clear while speaking at Goldman Sachs’ Communacopia investor conference, reports Variety.

According to Bewkes, there is “a little room for improvement” in the creative execution of their DCEU movies:

The DC Comics characters…have a little more lightness in them than maybe what you saw in those movies, so we’re thinking about that.

However, the studio head-honcho claims that they are still pretty confident about sticking to their ambitious plans for the DCEU, with Geoff Johns and Jon Berg newly appointed to oversee the upcoming installments.

He stresses that despite bagging poor reviews from the lion’s share of critics, both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad have turned out to be commercially successful movies. According to Bewkes:

The strategy worked. The execution did deliver what we wanted to do. We can do a little better on the creative...We’re right on course or better.

While one might have expected Zack Snyder’s March 25 release to reach the $1 billion milestone at the worldwide box office, an $872.7 million gross can’t be considered as a very weak performance. David Ayer’s August 5 release has surely exceeded expectations after having the legs to grab over $720 million at the worldwide box office. Jeff Bewkes says:

The main thing was to launch DC and reinvigorate it with the fan base. The reboot of Batman with Ben Affleck (in the role) was a big success.

He also insists that the fan reaction to Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman has been positive.
