There wasn’t much interest when Sony announced its Venom movie, but casting Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock was a good sign that the studio might just have a winning recipe for success. Also, the movie was rated R, and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) had signed on to direct. Add to this the reveal that Carnage would appear, and it’s understandable that the project’s appeal is growing.
It appears that Riz Ahmed (Rogue One) will bring Carnage to life, so there’s another acclaimed actor who will appear in Venom.
Later, we learned that four-time Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine, My Week with Marilyn) would play Eddie Brock’s possible love interest. With so many stars in lead roles, the Venom script is bound to be more than attractive.
Today, we have a report from Variety that reveals that Jenny Slate has joined the cast, as well! Best known for lending her voice to animated films such as Zootopia, Despicable Me 3, and The Secret Life of Pets, Slate has a huge fan base, so even greater numbers of fans have become interested in Venom!
Of course, principal photography for Venom has already been delayed twice. But that could be for the better, now that so many great actors have been added. We should add that Ruben Fleischer’s search for filming locations has also contributed to the delays.
It remains to be seen whether the release date will stand firm, but for the moment, Venom is scheduled to hit theaters on October 5, 2018.
