Titled Wednesday Ever After, the episode kicked off the final run of episodes for the beloved show. The CW initially brought The Flash to air in 2014, following in the footsteps of Arrow. It helped to establish the Arrowverse and, for nearly a decade, had been appointment TV for DC fans. But all good things must come to an end. Vanessa Parise directed the premiere episode. Eric Wallace came up with the story, with Thomas Pound and Sarah Tarkoff writing the script.
Here is the synopsis for Wednesday Ever After.
“Barry (Grant Gustin) creates a map book to guide him and Iris (Candice Patton) throughout their future in order to keep her safe, but the results are not what he expected, and instead, they relive the same day over and over again. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) has a heart-to-heart with Cecile (Danielle Nicolet). A new big bad is introduced to Team Flash and friends and foes, old and new, begin to descend upon Central City. “
This is likely the beginning of the end not just for this show, but the Arrowverse. The CW was recently sold to Nexstar, and the new owners are cutting back heavily on scripted programming. With most of the DC shows already off the air, we’re only left with Superman & Lois and the upcoming Gotham Knights. It’s very likely both of those shows will end after their seasons wrap up this year. And thus, an era will conclude.
The cast includes Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk, Jon Cor as Mark Blaine/Chillblaine and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. Greg Berlanti (Superman & Lois, Arrow, You), Eric Wallace (Teen Wolf, Eureka), Sarah Schechter (You, The Flight Attendant, Riverdale), Sam Chalsen (Sleepy Hollow) and Jonathan Butler (Bella and the Bulldogs) serve as executive producers.
The Flash returns with new episodes Wednesdays on The CW.
