Marvel’s Ironheart Show Finds Its Writer In Chinaka Hodge

Ironheart has put an important piece of the production team in place. According to Variety, Chinaka Hodge has been tapped as the head writer for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series, which is in the works for Disney+. Disney announced the series last year.

Hodge has previous credits on shows such as Amazing Stories and Snowpiercer. She is also an accomplished poet, playwright and teacher. Ironheart represents her most high-profile project to date. There is no word yet on who will be joining Hodge in the writer’s room. Marvel has not revealed who will direct the show yet. The project appears to be in the relatively early stages of development. Marvel Studios has tapped Dominique Thorne to star in the lead role.

This will follow in the footsteps of other recent live-action MCU shows that have debuted on Disney+. First up was WandaVision, which kicked things off earlier this year. It was followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which just wrapped up its run. These new shows have set themselves apart from previous live-action Marvel shows of the MCU era in several ways. These shows are heavily tied to the movies. Many of the actors have been reprising their roles. They also have massive budgets, comparable to the films produced by Disney and Marvel Studios.

Riri Williams, the woman behind Ironheart was introduced by Marvel Comics in May 2016. This makes the character a relatively recent addition to the publisher’s massive stable of superheroes. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato, she is a 15-year-old genius who manages to develop a suit of armor not unlike Iron Man’s, all on her own. Tony Stark takes notice and decides to aid her journey in becoming a superhero.

The show will likely serve as a springboard for Riri Williams to appear in future MCU movies. Such will be the case for many of these characters. For example, Captain Marvel 2 will feature Ms. Marvel. Iman Vellani is playing the part of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the show. Other shows currently in the works include Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Armor Wars and Secret Invasion. Tatiana Maslany will play She-Hulk, with Oscar Issac playing Moon Knight. Additionally, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is developing a series about Wakanda for Disney+

Ironheart does not yet have a release date.
