Trailer: Absolute Carnage Set to Invade Marvel Comics This Summer

Marvel Comics has released a trailer previewing one of their biggest comic book events of the entire year, Absolute Carnage. While it's pretty regular for the publisher to hype up any of their crossover events as a big deal, we have some reason to believe this one may actually live up to the claim, as Carnage is carving a path toward every single person in the Marvel Universe who has ever worn a symbiote suit. Check out the trailer for yourself below.

As we can see in the trailer, the Marvel Comics staff isn't afraid to hype things up. "It touches on almost every character in the Marvel Universe," said Editor-In-Chief C.B. Cebulski. "No character is going to be left untouched by Absolute Carnage." We get a glimpse at a lot of the eye-catching art that is set to be featured in the new book. We also hear writer Donny Cates discussing how he and artist Ryan Stegman, the team behind the most recent run of Venom, and their bond will help bring this book to life.

The hook here is that this book will be reintroducing Cletus Cassidy, aka Carnage, back to the Marvel Comics universe. As Cates puts it, they've given him a "nuclear bomb" of sorts and he's going to use that to try and destroy every single person who has ever worn a symbiote suit over the years. As it just so happens, that's a lot. As Marvel puts it, "Everyone is a target!"

Here’s the official synopsis for Absolute Carnage #1.

“After turning Venom's world upside down a year ago, Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman are about to put the Sinister Symbiote through hell again, only this time Carnage has come calling, and everyone who's ever worn a symbiote is dead in his sights! He's skirted the periphery of the Marvel Universe for months, but Cletus Kasady at last stands poised to make his grand return to New York in a blistering 60-page story"¦ and he wants to paint the town red!”

This is just one of several major crossover events the publisher either has going or has in the works. They're currently wrapping up War of the Realms, which has been an all-encompassing, high-stakes event. It was also recently revealed that they’re about to revive Marvel Zombies. Additionally, this looks like a way for Marvel to capitalize on one of the most popular events in their history, Maximum Carnage, which was an ambitious 14-issue crossover series that took place back in 1993. While it seems the story being told here is going to be very different, the title is no doubt going to evoke the same feelings in readers.

Absolute Carnage #1 hits stands on August 7. This is just the first issue in the four-issue miniseries.

So what do you think? Will you be picking up Absolute Carnage when it hits shelves next month? Sound off in the comments! Also, be sure to check out the cover art for Absolute Carnage #1 below.
